The buzz: Hotel Uno, with its principles of the best bed, perfect shower and ideal workspace is the latest addition to the city’s hotel scene just a few minutes walk from the BTS and MRT. Bistro 19 is their food outlet, offering an international buffet in the morning before turning into a restaurant-cum-hotel-bar open to all for the rest of the day.
The décor: While wooden tables and floors set the general tone, the black walls give off a slightly more contemporary feel. The hotel is not the biggest and the restaurant is tucked into a corner of the lobby. Still, the wall-to-ceiling windows overlooking the busy soi do help give a sense of space.
The cuisine: It’s a mix of western and Thai cuisine. Appetizers include the Bistro chicken wings, fried boneless chicken wings stuffed with minced shrimp served with reduction plum sauce or try the spicy mixed fruit salad with dried shrimps and cashew nuts. The pan seared scallop wrapped in bacon with cream cheese, cashew nuts and beetroot marmalade comes well recommended. Other seafood options on the menu include the seared tuna salad with balsamic dressing and roasted bell peppers, or try another recommendation in the form of the Lobster Bisque. The set lunch is reasonable for a choice of two or three courses depending on the monthly promotion.
The booze: Beer, spirit and cocktails, wine (glass, bottle).
The crowd: White collar professionals from around the region who are here on business, small groups of Thais and local residents.
