The buzz: This brand new restaurant is a relatively low-key addition to the buzzing Thonglor area. Occupying the space recently departed by Meeting Room Asian Gastro (above a MaxValu supermarket), much of the interior remains the same, making for a venue that’s very easy on the eyes. A younger edge is added by DJs spinning house music on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The décor: Cozy with a homey clutter. With its wood-dominated interior, hanging bulbs and black-hued accents, the venue may not offer up much different from countless other openings around town, but it’s an agreeable ambiance all the same. The furniture comprises a range of navy chairs and small couches with retro touches, while a sizeable outdoor area could prove a hit when the cool winter breeze sweeps through Bangkok in the coming months.
The food: Chef Aue Jittikorn Roontiwa, who earned his culinary chops in New York and previously worked at La Scala (Sukhothai Hotel) for five years, turns his attention to comfort food, but with some pretty presentation. Recommended dishes include the spaghetti with cowslip creeper flowers (dok kajorn), homemade Italian sausages and dried chilli (B270), sliced pork tenderloin served with eggplant and stewed purple cabbage (B420) and chicken confit with cauliflower puree and chicken liver pate on the side (B350).
The drinks: While you’re watching the football match on the big TV screen, enjoy a signature cocktail or two like the sake passion fruit (B320) and vodka mint lychee (B320). Otherwise, wines range from B200 (by the glass) and B850-1600 (by the bottle) and beers are Singha (B100) and Carlsberg (B110). Drop in between 5-8pm for their happy hour deal of buy-one-get-one-free on beers and cocktails.
The crowd: Some acquaintances of the owners (partners of Wine Bridge in Langsuan) and young office workers in the area.
