The buzz: The former Le Notre has been replaced by the luxury British brand Harrods, who has opened its classic English-style tearoom at Siam Paragon. Needless to say, it’s already a big hit with Bangkokians who just love a themed venue.
The decor: The authentic vibe is provided by stately neo-classic pillars, Victorian-style cupboards, mosaic tiles and shelves lined with Harrods tea—all flown in from England, of course. Harrods’ green signature teddy bear completes the look. There is also a mezzanine floor for those looking for a quieter cuppa.
The food: Besides the popular high tea sets, the menu is actually pretty broad with an emphasis on British favorites. Try the Australian beef Wellington (B590), beer battered fish and chips (B390) or shepherd’s pie (B290). The pastry team is led by chefs from the Mandarin Oriental, so you can drop in for your choice of three high tea sets (starting from B390), which come with anglo treats like scones, eclairs and lemon tarts. Otherwise, grab a range of pastries to-go by reliable suppliers like Le Blanc and Maison Jean Philippe or try the macarons (B300 for six) with intriguing flavors like white truffle or Champagne. Of course, there are brunch dishes, too, including the requisite eggs benedict (served here with turkey, B280) and Knightsbridge breakfast (truffle omelette, English sausage, grilled tomato, sauteed mushroom and toasted sourdough English muffin, B280).
The drinks: The kitchen team did some homework to pair most of the dishes with specific tea blends. If you’re there for a pastry, try the No. 14 English Breakfast Blend. Otherwise, coffee starts from B95 and tea at B230 a pot. They also have three beers available—London Pride (B195), Heineken (B115) and Singha (B115)—for those want to get tipsy in a mall.
The crowds: As you might expect, garrulous shopping crowds, lots of Chula students and couples taking photos.
