The buzz: This is Bangkok’s first-ever Korean-style Mexican fast food, and it’s served from the side of a truck. Reminiscent of the taco trucks of LA and New York, Kenji’s fleet of trucks serves up fast wraps like tacos and burritos for office professionals who want to pick up lunch on the go at affordable prices.
The décor: The trucks look like your traditional side-street vendor with cute graphics like “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Tacos,” and a huge side-flap that can be raised and serves as a bit of shade on the sidewalk. It is a takeaway station, so it’s preferable that you’ve called dibs on the shady spot around the corner or take it back for a dine-in at your office.
The food: The menu is brief and covers tacos, burritos, rice bowls and salads. The tacos look more like wraps than the traditional hard-shell stuff you might be accustomed to, but all the fillings are an interesting fusion of meats and Korean toppings and sauces, ranging from ground steak (B59/69 for tacos), fish (B69/79), grilled pork loin B59/69) and more. Oh and be forewarned that they only do flour tortillas, not corn. Their burritos come in small and large, and our favorite so far is the Japanese-ish chicken karaage (B69/79), wrapped in rice and kimchi, giving it a zingy taste.
The drinks: Soft drinks (B15) and drinking water (B10).
The crowd: Depending on the location of the truck and the day of the week, anyone from office workers to neighborhood residents with kids. Check out their Facebook and Twitter to find a truck near you. Sinsiri Tiwutanond
