The owners of this overlooked eatery know a thing or two about hospitality as they also have a hand in the Swissotel Le Concorde on Ratchadaphisek. It certainly shines through in their dishes and service, even if Korakotch is not quite as satisfying as its neighbor, the ever-popular Jantana. The décor is youth-friendly with couches to lounge on, white tables and dark brown seating. The charming hostess knows her menu and never lets you down with her recommendations; waiters are polite and smiling, too. The menu is Thai with some inter dishes, and neither cuisine disappoints. For appetizers, the must-try is the cheese wonton which is decadently oily, with the wonton super crispy and packed with cream cheese filling. For diners who don’t care about the calories, dip it in the accompanying sauce, a mixture of mayonnaise dressing and sweet chili sauce. Another starter worth trying is their new item, the crispy larb wonton. They execute this tricky fusion dish perfectly with the crispy shell allowing the flavor of the spicy larb filling to shine through. For mains, the clear tom yum with salmon isn’t for the faint of heart. It comes loaded with chili and lemongrass and packs a punch that only the true spice-lovers can handle. The salmon is a great addition to the soup with the sweetness of the meat going some way to balancing the spiciness. Another of the recommended dishes is the fried chicken with garlic, salt and chili, and it’s spot on. The chicken is juicy and fried to perfection with huge pieces of dried chili skin and a whole lot of flavor. For the “inter” route, the spaghetti with chili paste, salted fish and bacon, is also packed with flavor, but on a recent visit we could hardly find any sign of the fish. Nevertheless, the service was friendly, the food delicious and quickly prepared. It’s just a shame that the lack of customers make it such a lonely dining experience. No corkage charge.
