Francophiles who can’t get enough of the famous French patisserie’s baguettes and tartes have a new reason to flock to this chic new two-story eatery overlooking bustling Thonglor. Aside from the usual beautifully executed macarons and cakes is a revamped menu featuring 11 new dishes drawing inspiration from the Land of Smiles. “Thai people don’t eat French food every day,” explains executive chef Eric Berrigaud, a former chef at V9 and Mistral. “We do fusion food, Thai with French influence. Modern style, with local products.” The new dishes bear testament to the focus on fusion: lemongrass-infused cod filets come with rice cooked three ways and Thai herbs, while the most popular dish on the menu is an avocado tartare topped with curry and laced with orange dressing. “I like Thai food,” says Berrigaud, a pad see ew aficionado. “Everything is fresh, you cook a la minute [“at the last moment”—to order]. This I like.” Diners with a penchant for sharing their orders can hoover their way through a selection of big plates (assiettes gourmandes) that provide veritable culinary tours through Norway, Italy, Spain and France. “Thai people really like to try,” says Berrigaud, a six-year veteran of life in Thailand. “But you need to explain about food. If you don’t explain they eat one time, but no more.”
