The buzz: Located on the 32/F of the new Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit, there’s already been a lot of chatter about this place. Partly because of its stylish ambience designed by renowned interior company PIA, and partly because of the modern French cuisine created by Chef Jeremy Tourret who used to work in the kitchen of three-Michelin-star New York restaurant Daniel, by famous chef Daniel Boulud.
The décor: Imagine a grand Parisian apartment, with parquet floors, rich burgundy wallpaper and lots of marble among some well chosen bric-a-brac. Every item is imported; the couches, black and white pictures of Parisian life, even the La Cornue stove in the open kitchen. The overall vibe manages to be both elegant and cozy making it a great place for dates. There’s also a library nook if you’re waiting for your date to show, a glamorous bar and an outdoor terrace to take in the breeze.
The food: French cuisine with Thai touches. Chef Jeremy says he’s passionate about Thai produce so you can expect seasonal items on the brief menu which is broken down into market, signature dishes and tapas. Core ingredients like scallops, snail or lamb will be ever-present but the recipes featuring them will change every two weeks. At the moment you can expect the market menu to include dishes like ginger, lemongrass and kaffir steam salmon fillet served with vegetables (B690), snail ravioli maitre d’ hotel fragrance and garlic croutons (B550) and pan fried lamb fillet with vegetable tians (slices) and bell pepper coulis (B990).
The drinks: There’s a full bar and a DJ station meaning this place is more than a restaurant. The focus is on Champagne with various recommended cocktails (B490) like North by Northwest (Champagne with Hendrix gin, lemon juice and St. George absinthe). Wine by the glass starts from B240 while beers range from B180-B480. They also have Domican and Cuban cigars.
