The popular Japanese chain MOS Burger—which already has outlets in Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong—has recently made its Bangkok debut. The quiet Atrium Zone of CentralWorld has come to life, with long queues even on weekdays.
The name “MOS” refers to mountain, ocean and sun, emphasizing the burger chain’s love of nature. “There are plenty of fresh vegetables in our burgers. We use high quality beef, soybean sauce and vegetable oil to provide a healthier option for fast food lovers,” says Yasumasa Asai, MOS Burger’s chairman. With the head chef flown in from Japan, this Bangkok outlet offers similar menus to those you would find at any of its 1,500 branches in Japan. Ninety percent of ingredients, however, are local, permitting affordable and reasonable prices. Burgers are B49-79, while sets, in which you can choose between fries, Japanese-style salad or butterfly prawns as a side dish, are B99-149. The MOS cheeseburger is the most popular item, followed by the teriyaki burger and the shrimp cutlet burger. Don’t expect the food to come fast like at other chains you’re familiar with. Each burger is freshly made after the order has been placed at the counter. While waiting, you can watch the chefs making your orders in the open kitchen. And if you find the size of burgers at MOS smaller than at its competitors, Yasumasa-San has an explanation: “Our burgers may look smaller, but actually they are thicker. It takes more time to cook a thicker burger, but that’s why our burger is juicier and tastier.” Though he is satisfied with the success, Asai thinks MOS Burger still needs to improve the seat turnovers so that the customers don’t have to wait such a long time. He also hints that the next outlet will open in December, but the location is still under discussion. New Thai menus are also set to be unveiled next year.
