Hidden away in the simulated rain forests of the Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa is a chocoholic’s haven. Because getting to Numero Uno requires much more than a hop, skip, and a jump, it is an ideal site for a secret rendezvous between you and another chocolate obsessed cohort. After walking through what seems to be an exhibition of a serious elephant fetish, you land on the doorstep of a Polynesian-esque wonderland. Followed by a Willy-Wonka like experience when entering the restaurant as a rotating and refrigerated truffle tower, pastries, candies, and other cocoa related paraphernalia greet you. The menu is just as decadent and tempting. Choose from a list of nine “chocolate treats”, including the cherry chocolate cake with a chocolate infused sponge, fresh cream and cherries soaked in an almond liqueur—the best spin on black forest cake in ages. Follow that up with a golden dome, an almost silk like truffle mousse with a surprise crème brulee-ish center. If your body hasn’t gone into sugar shock by this point, wash it all down with a “Choco tail.” Try the Bananas & Chocolate Fantasy, a combination of chocolate chip ice cream, bananas and hot chocolate. For those worried about portions, Executive Pastry Chef Bernd Opiela assures us that we can enjoy the chocolate treats and maintain control as the average stomach feels full after about 200 mg of chocolate. Wanna bet?
