The buzz: Guitarist of indie-rock mainstays Slur, Sorasak House, just moved his fashion accessories store, Onion, from Siam Vintage to a bigger location in Ekkamai. As seems nearly obligatory in fashion now, he’s also added a café that brews beans supplied by the popular Brave Roasters.
The decor: The shop here is much bigger than the previous space, taking the raw-meets-industrial décor to another level with its wooden floor, whitewashed brick walls and rusted metal showcases used to display sunglasses and other accessories. The designated café space keeps to the same ambiance with a blond wood bench and couch piled with oversized cushions for seating.
The goods: The place is a real-deal fashion café, home to Onion’s imported accessories which feature a particular focus on sunglasses. Starting from B850, frames range from modern wayfarers and aviators to retro teashades from names like Super, Moscot, AJ Morgan, 9Five, Etnia Barcelona and Komono. There are also preppy bags from local brand All Things Necessary (from B4,690) and women’s shoes from Minnetonka Moccasins (B2,790). The café offers in-house roasted coffee starting from B70.
Why you’ll be back: As with the original, the shop offers a great selection of mid-priced imported eye-wear. On top of that, there’s a nice, cozy atmosphere—and coffee snobs, rest assured, this is one fashion café that does a mean cup of joe.
