The buzz: After the sad demise of Good Enuff to Eat (we always had qualms with the name), the somewhat odd location opposite 8 Thonglor's Foodland is now replaced by a cozy izakaya serving small portions of Japanese comfort classics at fixed prices—B88. Apparently, this Daiso-esque formula seems to be working as even in these times of flood-related tensions, the place has been packed for both lunch and dinner.
The decor: They've managed to grapple with the basement location, and while nothing can be done about the unfortunate view of supermarket check-out rows and Took Lae Dee, the walnut wood-heavy decor, coupled with hanging lamps and stone floors, goes a long way. There's bar seating along one side of the restaurant, but instead of calm sushi masters behind the bar, there's a busy, steamy open kitchen—but that just gives it more of an energetic vibe.
The food: Everything on the menu is B88 and comes in small portions, which means you can order several dishes and share with friends over a bottle or three of sake—a nice and authentic izakaya set-up. They offer standards like seaweed salad, a limited sushi and sashimi selection, a few grease-bombs like yakisoba and gyoza and grilled skewers and donburi. Lunch sets range from B138-198
The drinks: No fireworks in the drinks department, but a nice, affordable selection: Asahi on tap for B88, several wine bottles at B898 and small bottles of sake for B328. They also do several fruit beers (fruit added afterwards) like apple, peach and lychee (B118).
