Koi has a new baby sister, and she’s really cool. The NY-LA-BKK family of posh sushi lounges known for their model-clientele has expanded, adding the Italian eatery, The Bridge Bangkok, to its entourage. It is a striking glass and steel building erected beneath the trees in Koi’s front yard. Its angular, contemporary style evokes the pyramid at the Louvre, while the surrounding trees and expert landscaping create a wonderful effect, like you’re one with nature. To match the architecture, the menu consists of Italian classics injected with new life and ideas. Chef Davide Spigh is elated to be at the helm of a kitchen where he’s free to express his creativity. The chef said he loves creating appetizers and salads—so don’t skip over the beginning of the menu. The Japanese scallop and tiger prawn starter is a perfectly seared plump scallop served atop a bed of spinach with carrot puree, drizzled with a truffle sauce and served alongside a prawn doused with a Champagne and dill cream sauce and garnished with a grilled pepper salad. The soups, such as a rich and sinful creamy porcini mushroom and truffle soup, also are delicious. The menu also boasts a solid selection of pastas—try the black squid ink spaghetti with prawns in a light lobster cream sauce—as well as more model-friendly carb-free items from the grill: wagyu striploin, Australian lamb chops and Phuket lobster.
