The buzz: As the flagship eatery at Accor’s latest MGallery “design” hotel, you can expect a blend of upscale international dishes and local cuisine. The sophisticated 11th floor venue commands a view over Ratchathewi. The name Vie, pronounced V, means life in French.
The décor: Walk through the slick automatic glass doors, and you are immersed in a rich palette of dark earthy tones from browns and greens to purples and oranges. The sheer walls of woven copper mesh curtains create partitions within the spacious dining area, which has a private function room at one end and an open kitchen at the other. Couches decorated with silk cushions and lights crafted from hundreds of silkworm cocoons add to the restaurant’s upscale ambience.
The cuisine: The menu includes international dishes such as the pan-seared foie gras served with warm peach compote, balsamic sauce and rocket salad. For a taste closer to home, there’s the chu chee pan-fried salmon steak, covered with the Thai red curry sauce and sweet basil. The salmon is tender and moist, and the sauce delicately spiced. To round off your meal, try the made-to-order hazelnut fondant—a pot of rich nutty chocolate with vanilla sauce and ice cream.
The booze: Check out the range of ten martinis and ten champagne cocktails. The wine list is extensive and international, with bottles from B1,600 to a B98,000 French Bordeaux.
The crowd: Hotel guests and a mix of local and expat business professionals.
