The buzz: After closing two years ago, rooftop restaurant Zense is back with its global mix of cuisines at the top of CentralWorld. With the holidays coming, it’s sure to be a popular new al fresco spot and even a potential destination to spend your New Year counting down.
The décor: The spacious dining area contains both indoor and outdoor sections with a renovated roof courtesy of Amata Luphaiboon, who designed Sala Phuket Resort and Six Senses Hideaway Samui. The result is as beautiful as ever and as conducive to chilling, whether it’s by the LED-lit bar outside, on the bean bags in the lounge area or by the live DJs next to the imposing stairway.
The food: There are five kitchens on-site—White Café (fusion), Gianni Ristorante (Italian), The Kikusui (Japanese), Red (Indian) and To Die For (desserts). It’s all ordered from the same menu and most dishes come in big portions to share: start off with appetizers like roti pai boti (marinated lamb cubes with ginger and Indian herbs served with roti, B450) or salmon foo (deep-fried salmon with mango dressing, B350). Mains include grilled lemon sole with white wine, lemon and caper sauce (B690) and beef yaki (grilled beef with vegetables and mushrooms, B590). If you’re after something sweet, end your meal with the chocolate explosion served with vanilla ice cream (B225).
The drinks: Signature cocktails are the Green Zensation (lychee, apple, kiwi, melon and vodka, B295) and the Breakfast Mojito (blueberries, white rum, lime, mints and brewed malt, B295). Beers start from B150 and there are about 100 wine labels with prices starting from B1,500 a bottle. Otherwise, choose one of the ten selections of wine by the glass (B350).
The crowds: Couples and beautiful young people looking to get back to their favorite venue, as well as businessmen wanting to show off the view of Bangkok to their foreign guests. Pieng-or Mongkolkumnuankhet
